At that time, it was part of the Bethel movement that had its roots in the Pentecostal Church. Sadly the movement declined quite rapidly and so, under the leadership of the Pastor, the Church drew up its own constitution and became independent. In due course the members decided to buy the church building rather than continuing to rent. About 26 years ago, the building on Churchill Street became the subject of a compulsory purchase order and we were re-located onto Waterloo Street. This was clearly in God's plan for us as the old building was in a poor state of repair and the new building was completely funded by the local Council. Oldham Bethel Church is an Independent Evangelical Church and is an affiliated to the FIEC (Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches). See 'What We Believe' for our statement of faith. Following a 3 year period without a pastor it is a delight that on 17th September 2005, Rev. David Skinner was inducted as our pastor. It has been a joy to see God's hand upon the fellowship and we are looking forward to moving on as the Lord leads. |

Bethel Church was formed about 60 years ago following the highly successful compaign held in the town by the Jeffries' brothers.
After meeting for a while in a room above a shop in the town centre, the congregation decided to move into an empty church building on Churchill Street, just off Waterloo Street. A full time minister was called and Oldham Bethel Church was born.
